Books Authored
by Your Host

Your podcast host, Cedric Hopkins, has put pen to paper (more like, fingertips to keyboard keys) and wrote three books so far (there are a couple more in the works). A couple of them are more on the technical side teaching litigants how to handle post-conviction relief cases and how to take a case from the state appellate system to the federal court appellate system. The other book is Cedric's proactive step to help you safely exercise your rights when interacting with the police.

Black Book of Rights

With the Black Book of Rights, Cedric has undertaken the most significant project he's ever worked on as an attorney. He has taken a proactive stance in the fight for protecting Black Americans during police interactions. His goal with the Black Book is that every citizen knows their rights when interacting with law enforcement and be able to exercise those rights safely. The Green Book was designed to keep Black Americans safe during the turbulent Jim Crow Era, and now the Black Book of Rights is designed to keep you safe during police interactions, which are often unpredictable and stress-filled. Federal Writ of Habeas Corpus Manual

This practice manual was designed for pro se inmates who have exhausted their state court appellate remedies and want to pursue their case in federal court. Cedric takes the challenging legal concepts of the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996 (“AEDPA”) and simplifies them into easy-to-understand instructions on how to draft an effective federal petition for a writ of habeas corpus. Rule 32 Handbook

Cedric created the Rule 32 Handbook to help pro se inmates properly investigate and prepare effective petitions for post-conviction relief in Arizona. The Handbook provides inmates with relevant case law to use in their petitions, along with sample petitions to use when drafting their petition. Forms are also provided that assist inmates in acquiring investigators and evidence to support their claims. CLICK HERE to get a copy.
